STATEMENT OF MISSION
We believe God calls us to share the good news of Jesus Christ. To be a faithful, growing church and strengthen congregational life for this mission, we work toward Christian unity, share Christ’s redeeming love that the human family might be made whole, welcome all people for worship and fellowship, and minister to the needs of others by sharing and caring.

Keep Asking Questions
Recently I was invited to participate in the Transition/Revitalization Series put together by the Greater Kansas City Transitional Ministry Specialists (Interim Ministers Network). This workshop type group is working through 5 Development Tasks for Congregations in Transition. These 5 tasks are often used by Interim Ministers working with congregations getting them ready for a new minister. The first of the 5 tasks involved “Getting to know your History”. Come to find out, I have already begun to work on this 1st task with our congregation. The TimeLine in the Hall is one very important way of identifying our history as a congregation. Task #2 is “What is our Identity Now”, #3 is “Develop New Leaders”, #4 “Close Ties to Denomination, and #5 is Prepare for New Ministry”. This group will be addressing one Task each month. I was invited to participate in this workshop by our Regional Ministers so I would be better equipped to lead this congregation through the transition we are facing. Many of the ministers that are involved in the group are friends from years gone by and I am very excited to be gathering with them again. This is a great networking tool for me as a new Senior Minister. At the end of the first meeting I was invited to call upon many of the ministers with any questions I might have and they were very supportive. I am looking forward to our next meeting on August 27th.
Another group I am meeting with on a monthly basis is a group of about 12 ministers that are all serving in ministry settings with congregations in the midst of Transition. We each have different situations in our congregations and have vowed to assist each other with ideas of things that have worked in the past and things that have not worked. This is the group that I am talking with about what all we need to do to get a permanent projection system installed. This is a group that I will be able to bounce ideas off of and see if any of them have tried certain things. Our first meeting together was to design what our group will do. We talked about everything from specific books that might be worth our time reading to social gatherings where we can just talk without any agenda.
One thing I have found with both of these groups is that our region brings together ministers in many ways. There should not be a time when I feel like I am left out to dry by myself. There are people in our region that I can call if I have questions. There are other ministers that have been in the same boat I am in currently. There are other congregations that have dealt with what we are dealing with right now as a family of faith. All I need to do is make a call or ask a question. It is not that I will always get a solution to a problem or an answer to a question but I will get a voice that can say I have been there and this is what I did. It may work and it may not, but I still have a place to ask the question.
As a family of faith, I encourage all of you to keep asking questions. When we stop questioning then we become stagnant in our faith. We may not get the answer we want or we may not be asking the correct question. Whichever the case may be, as long as we question, we are moving in some direction.
Shalom,
Sondra

GREAT TIME TO “COOL OFF”
We will be holding our annual Ice Cream Social on August 17th. The kids are getting ready to go back to school and what better way to end the summer break than with a “piled high” ice cream cone!
Please plan on attending and please bring a friend or lots of friends for this great time.
WORLD OUTREACH COMMITTEE
We had an outstanding turnout of food for the Food Pantry this month, and a great big Thank You goes out to Donna Burch for helping us collect 75 or more extra food items to honor Donna’s 75th Birthday.
Our hats are off to Donna and to all of you wonderful people who brought the food.
We were able to take 202 food items and 113 household and personal care items to Christ the King Food Pantry on August 4th.
Thank you for all the ways you share.

Eight is the “luckiest” number according to the Chinese. It sounds like “fortune” in Chinese.
Eight has been my good fortune for seventy-five years! Your wonderful response to the food collection is a blessing not only to me but to others.
If has been my good fortune to have a thoughtful church family. God has blessed us.
Donna
CHURCH DIRECTORIES
The 2008-2009 Church directories have begun to be printed. We had some computer issues which set it behind a bit.
Look for them soon in the Narthex.
