STATEMENT OF MISSION

We believe God calls us to share the good news of Jesus Christ.  To be a faithful, growing church and strengthen congregational life for this mission, we work toward Christian unity, share Christ’s redeeming love that the human family might be made whole, welcome all people for worship and fellowship, and minister to the needs of others by sharing and caring.

A NEW VIEW

FROM THE BRIDGE

It’s Tall Oaks time again.  Summer Camp is one of my favorite times of the year.  I have the honor of spending a week in the beautiful setting at Tall Oaks with young people from all over our region.  We even have kids from other denominations that come out to our camp because they have heard how wonderful it is.

Many months go in to the preparation for each camp and we have 18 different camps over the course of the summer.  Just think of the time alone that is spent making sure the young people of the Kansas City area have a positive and faith lifting place to go to worship and explore their spiritual journey.  In order for camps to occur we have to have adults to direct them and counsel them.  I would like to thank the congregation for allowing me to be away from the church for the week so that I can be part of this wonderful program.

I find it truly amazing how much these kids want to be at camp and how willing they are to talk about their faith openly.  They know Tall Oaks is a place where they will not be criticized about what they believe whether people agree with them or not.  Wouldn’t it be great if there were more places like Tall Oaks?

The theme this year is “Beyond the Yellow Brick Road” and the goal is to nurture our spiritual self through the characters  from the story “The Wizard of Oz”.  We will journey with Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Lion as we search to strengthen our awareness of faith in our everyday lives.

I invite you to spend some time this week praying for the youth attending the various camps this summer.  Also, spend some intentional time this week strengthening your own faith journey either through prayer or bible study.  Wonderful things can happen when intentional time is spent with God.

I will be directing CYF 2 camp at Tall Oaks from Saturday, July 12th through July 18th.  If there are any emergencies please call the church office and Sue will know how to contact me.

Shalom,

Sondra

PUMPING THE “GOLD”

Tips on Pumping Gas

q       Only buy or fill up early morning when the ground temperature is still cold.

q       Fill up when your tank is HALF FULL or HALF EMPTY

q       If a gasoline truck is pumping into the storage tanks DO NOT fill up

q       When filling DO NOT squeeze the nozzle to a fast mode.  Pumping in low mode minimizes the vapor .
