HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY
MAY 11, 2008
STATEMENT OF MISSION
We believe God calls us to share the good news of Jesus Christ. To be a faithful, growing church and strengthen congregational life for this mission, we work toward Christian unity, share Christ’s redeeming love that the human family might be made whole, welcome all people for worship and fellowship, and minister to the needs of others by sharing and caring.
A NEW VIEW
FROM THE BRIDGE
WHEN A NEW PASTOR ARRIVES
The church will soon be calling a new pastor. Here are some suggestions and thoughts for each of us to think about and consider.
Patience
Be patient with your new pastor. Once in the pulpit the new pastor will be known by everyone. Remember it will take time for the pastor to know you. Wear your name tags, especially for the first few weeks.
Judgment.
Look for all the positive qualities of your new pastor. Every pastor is different and stands on their own merits. Don’t make judgments by comparing them to someone else.
Criticism.
If you have issues or difference down the line with your new pastor, don’t relay those issues to someone else, ask for an appointment with your pastor to discuss the situation. This will probably resolve the concerns.
Supportive
Be a positive voice for your new pastor. Support will bring out the best in your new pastor and will enrich the whole congregation in return. Remember you are both to be Christ like in your efforts.
Encouragement
Every pastor appreciates an honest, sincere, enthusiastic voice of encouragement. Say a good word whenever and wherever the opportunity is provided.
Prayer
“More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of.” Your pastor needs your prayers and you need your pastor’s prayers. Many prayers have gone into the selection of your pastor, let them continue that God’s blessing will be upon your pastor and this congregation as you grow together in Christ.

Memorial Established
A Memorial has been established for Lee Dornan.
ADDRESS CHANGE
Barbara Ghrist has a new address. Her Bridge was returned to the church with a corrected address, so all I have is address – no new telephone number.

WORLD OUTREACH
We counted and delivered all the donations of clothing for the Together Center with a grand total of 218 items.
This past Sunday was Food Collection Sunday. Again, your generosity shows in the numbers: 184 food items and 32 toiletries.

CALLING ALL GRADUATES
We would like to recognize and congratulate our graduates at the May 25th worship service. We know of a few but, do not want to miss acknowledging any one and this special event in their lives.
So please let us know who is graduating. It doesn’t have to just be from high school or college. If you are moving out of middle school to high school or pre-school to kindergarten we want to know.
Please let Sue know by calling the office or by email (redbridgecc@juno.com) so we can celebrate our youth.
IT’S A GIRL!!
Congratulations to Sarah & Brock Thompson on the arrival of Shelby Lynn Thompson who weighed in at 8lbs. 7oz. and 20” long.
Shelby Lynn is Sue and Ritch Blew and Clay Chittim’s granddaughter.
WE ARE FAMILY
Brandon Harvey will graduate from the University of Kansas in Architectural Engineering. Congratulations to Brandon and the Harvey Family.
Allie Ladd will attend the University of Missouri in Columbia in the Fall. Allie has been the captain of her high school dance team’s awarding winning program. Allie is the Henley’s granddaughter and a member of our church.
Sarah Houston will graduate from Lee’s Summit West and plans to attend the University of Missouri, K.C. Sarah has been accepted at the Conservatory of Music.
Travis Houston is an Eagle Scout. Travis was one of the Mic-O-Say dancers. I was a wonderful program, new and exciting.
Laura Lopez, Lucille Greer’s granddaughter, will receive her Master’s Degree. This is a wonderful accomplishment for a young woman who is a wife, mother and employed. Youth is wonderful!
SHARE THE CHALICE
Share the church that means so much in your life. Support the Pentecost Offering and you support planting new Disciples churches, spreading the Love of Christ, the Unity of Christ, and the Witness of Christ you share. Give people throughout the U.S. and Canada a chance to have a church they love, too.
Share the Chalice with your offering, your prayers, and support of the movement.
Since, 2001 your support of the Pentecost offering, and New Church Ministry, has helped start more than 533 new Disciples churches, bringing more than 38,000 new members to the Disciples, as well as new witness and ministry in the U.S. and Canada. The Pentecost offering is shared equally between New Church Ministry and your Region.
Pentecost offering will be collected May 11th.
SPECIAL POTLUCK

There will be a special potluck after worship on May 18th to meet our prospective minister candidate, Sondra Bowers.
Please plan on attending and “getting to know” Sondra.
