MOTHER/DAUGHTER BANQUET
MAY 4, 2008
STATEMENT OF MISSION
We believe God calls us to share the good news of Jesus Christ. To be a faithful, growing church and strengthen congregational life for this mission, we work toward Christian unity, share Christ’s redeeming love that the human family might be made whole, welcome all people for worship and fellowship, and minister to the needs of others by sharing and caring.
A NEW VIEW
FROM THE BRIDGE
VIGILANCE
Someone has said, that, “Eternal vigilance is the price of freedom”. We live in a time in which our world is so concerned about preserving our freedom. The element of fear seems to be a major topic that keeps many of our political leaders engrossed in ways to protect us from terrorists and any other situation that would take away our freedom. This is all well and good, but there are other areas for which our vigilance should be concerned and directed.
After the highlight of Jesus’ baptism He was immediately tempted, in His case He was victorious. We need to be vigilant that at the time we get to feel the best about our religious experiences, that may be the moment we need to be most vigilant, lest we think we are beyond temptation. Eternal vigilance should be in order because, that is when we may be most vulnerable to Satan’s enticing powers.
Another way in which vigilance is essential is that we must be open to relating to others whose ideas may not match ours.
Unity in the church and love for one another should enable us to listen to other people with various opinions, as we show respect and still maintain the unity in Christ.
“Behold how good and pleasant it is to dwell together in unity”
Psalms 133
